Rosa Loves… An evening with Isabel and Ruben Toledo at Corcoran Gallery of Art.

Last week, I attended a cocktail reception and book signing featuring fashion designer Isabel Toledo and her husband, the talented illustrator, Ruben Toledo. The event was organized by Fashion Group International and Corcoran Gallery of Art. Honestly, meeting Isabel and Ruben Toledo was one of the most amazing experiences in recent months. They are both incredibly kind and really took the time to talk to the guests at the reception. After the book signing, a live chat and Q&A session took place and it was moderated by Pulitzer Prize-winning fashion writer Robin Givhan. Isabel and Ruben were charming and candid when talking about their life-long collaboration. My favorite part of the discussion was when Isabel described the process and challenges that went into the making of the dress and matching coat that Michelle Obama wore during Inauguration in 2009. Did you know that they haven’t been able to replicate the exact same color of the garments? It certainly makes the dress and coat even more special. Isabel also mentioned that the key to dress men is to do it in a subtle way so they don’t notice it because men hate change. So ladies, if you are thinking about redoing your man’s wardrobe, take Isabel’s advice, I know I will.

It was indeed a magical evening full of great speakers, fashionable people (Hi Lydia and Linda!), and delicious appetizers. I also took home the coolest souvenir: a drawing of myself by Ruben Toledo. Amazing!
