Rosa Loves… A sparkly and glittery day.

Saturday was a busy day. I started my morning by packing for our holiday trip but I took a break for brunch. I met my friend Sara of High Fashion for Less and the lovely KAR of Blue Rooms White Houses at Scion in Dupont Circle. Over mimosas and a giant plate of huevos rancheros, KAR told us about her interior design adventures and we got to know her a bit more. We met briefly at the last Blogger Blitz DC a few months ago and I just love her fabulous blog. For brunch, I decided to wear my favorite lace top and instead of my signature statement necklace, I went with my sparkly heart ring.

After brunch, I ran some errands and when I got home, I packed some more. My husband and I went for a quick dinner that evening before heading over to a cocktail party organized by Ashley of Ashley in DC and her boyfriend Trevor. It was the first time I’ve been to her place and it is gorgeous. There was a champagne bar with all the ingredients needed for guests to make their favorite sparkling cocktails and that was kind of awesome. Also, aren’t those glittery bow drink toppers adorable? They certainly put a smile on my face every time I took a sip of my cocktail. We loved meeting some of Ashley’s friends and we even had the opportunity to chat with some of my favorite bloggers from the area (Hi Alissa and Morgan)!

As you can see, my Saturday was very sparkly and glittery and I was able to spend time with some old and new friends before going to visit the family for the holidays.

jaleo sparkling sangria

Rosa Loves… Sparkling sangria and the beginning of summer.

It’s official, summer has arrived. Yesterday was a particularly hot day and as I walked to the metro, I thought about the amazing sparkling sangria I had last week at Jaleo (thanks Rebecca and Katie for the fabulous evening). It’s just the perfect summer cocktail. I know I could use a glass (or a pitcher) right now.

You all have a fabulous weekend and enjoy your summer.

Rosa Loves… Cosmopolitans and Red Velvet Cake.
I started my week by meeting the lovely Ashley of Ashley in DC for yummy cosmopolitans at Redwood in Bethesda. I love getting to know other bloggers in the area, specially one as talented as Ashley; she’s an amazing photographer and such a fun lady to hang out with. Can’t wait to do it again soon.
Next on the agenda was a lunch outing with my co-workers to celebrate a recent publication. There’s a long story behind why I am not in charge of selecting restaurants for our team lunches but it involves an unexpected version of the ‘Amazing Race’, a guy afraid of being separated from the group, ‘evil’ vegetables, and a strange-looking apple pie. This time around, someone in the team suggested Founding Farmers and of course I couldn’t contain myself and proclaimed my love for the place. Eyebrows were raised. However, my co-workers’ skepticism quickly dissipated after a meticulous inspection of the menu online and a comment about the larger portions offered. So that’s where we went and I am happy to report that everyone was happy with the entrées, the awesome desserts (hello Red Velvet cake!) and no ‘evil’ vegetables.
But my week was far from over. I also attended a fabulous birthday party at Irish Whiskey in honor of Nikki of Cupcakes for Breakfast. There were plenty of Whisked DC cupcakes to go around and I was able to chat with some awesome blogger friends.
And tonight, I am meeting friends for happy hour. So yes, my week has been super busy indeed, but I kind of love it.

Rosa Loves… Roses, cocktails and sweaters.

DC got some snow this weekend and while it didn’t stick around for too long, it certainly took us by surprise. However, the snow didn’t stop me from enjoying a very relaxing time with friends and husband. Here’s a few snapshots of my weekend:

  • Pretty roses I took home on Friday to brighten up my coffee table.
  • Cocktails and beer with husband at Palena in Cleveland Park. I had an amazing martini made with pear flavored Grey Goose and champagne and for dessert I had the most sinful cake: a chocolate torte with buttered popcorn ice cream. I never had anything like it before and I am still thinking about it.
  • My favorite cozy sweaters. I was on a mission this weekend: to get my hands on some super cozy sweaters and hats. And it was totally justified since it was snowy, right? The fur vest was a hit with Lola as she took a little nap on top of the collar, she found it very soft and luxurious.

How was your weekend? Did you get any snow? If so, I hope you stayed safe and warm.

Rosa Loves… The beginning of Autumn in DC.

The weather in DC was gorgeous this past weekend and because of it, I spent a lot of my time outdoors with friends. Among my activities:

  • I went for a long walk around Cleveland Park before meeting friends for lunch and I must say that I really loved all the pretty colors in the trees.
  • I visited a friend in her new sunny apartment in DC. Cutest place ever!
  • I met the lovely Sara of High Fashion 4 Less for champagne cocktails, brunch, and a great conversation at Co Co Sala in Penn Quarter. Sara also let me snap some pictures of her so I could sharpen my portrait photography skills. Thanks girl!
  • While enjoying our outdoors brunch, Sara and I realized that the new Anthropologie store was just right across the restaurant, so a quick visit was a must. We loved it and Sara found a very cute dress for an incredible deal.

In all, it was a great weekend. How was yours? Did you take advantage of the beautiful weather too?

Rosa Loves… Fridays!
The weekend has finally arrived and I couldn’t be happier. It’s been a crazy week and I am glad it’s over. The weather is going be just perfect for a walk in the city, brunch with friends at some fabulous restaurants, and the farmer’s market in Dupont Circle.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Rosa Loves… A few snapshots of a rainy and windy weekend.

As you all know, hurricane Irene swept through the East Coast this past weekend and on Saturday, it paid a visit to our Nation’s Capital. In preparation for the hurricane, I picked up supplies (including macaroons from Cacao and bubbly) and went out with friends on Friday night for pre-hurricane cosmopolitans and food at Ardeo/Bardeo in Cleveland Park. I had a yummy gnocchi and mushroom salad and the berry panna cotta. On Saturday, as the rain and wind increased in intensity, we stayed indoors watching movies (Die Hard marathon: AWESOME!) and reading magazines. Lola decided to go underneath her favorite blankets and pillows for the duration of the storm. We went to bed thinking we would probably loose power but when we woke up the next morning, we had electricity and only minor damage around our neighborhood, woohoo!!! After a lazy Sunday morning, I emailed my friend Rebecca and we ventured out and went for brunch at Le Chat Noir. The frites and the caramelized peach crepe were the perfect post-hurricane food.

I am thankful that family and friends were safe during the hurricane and I hope all of you in the path of Irene also stayed safe and dry this weekend.
