Rosa Loves… Macarons as the perfect conference snack.

The conference I attended was a bit long; five days of science are awesome, but sometimes there’s so little time in between talks that it’s hard to get a snack. So when I heard that DC Patisserie would be at the Artisans’ Market at Williams-Sonoma the weekend of my conference, I made a quick stop on my way to pick up a friend who was staying in Bethesda. While the macarons didn’t last long, they were indeed the perfect snack for the first few days at the conference. By the way, my favorite one was Cherry Blossom of course, but they were all equally delicious.

Editor’s note: My heart is with Boston right now. Rosa Loves… A morning in Georgetown.

I recently spent a wonderful morning in Georgetown. My friend Jenn was in town and it was a great opportunity to go to brunch at Bistro Francais and to catch up. Our friend Rhea also joined us and it was so good to see them both. Rhea ordered a delicious almond tart for dessert and we ended up sharing it over an extra cup of coffee. I met these ladies a few years ago and it was all because of our J.Crew love. Of course, after our brunch we visited our Mothership to do some holiday shopping. Since I was in Georgetown, I decided to stop by Baked & Wired to pick up some cupcakes that I could eat while watching some TV shows at home later. The weather was beautiful, I got to see some friends, and I ate some great food. So yes, my morning in Georgetown was a fabulous one.

Rosa Loves… Cupcakes and an afternoon at UVA.

A friend was scheduled to give a talk at the University of VA during my stay in Charlottesville. I know, I was on vacation, but her Parasitology research is quite fascinating so I decided to spend the afternoon around campus. My first stop before heading to UVA was Sweethaus, a charming cupcake place. I had three of their mini cupcakes: strawberry, red velvet, and vanilla. All were equally delicious. I then walked to the Downtown Mall to explore Charlottesville a bit more. As the time for my friend’s talk got closer, I jumped on a shuttle to campus but I got lost. Luckily, a friend who teaches at UVA came to my rescue and I was able to make it to the talk. It was a very close call. My friend did an amazing job with her presentation and after I was able to spend time on campus visiting my other friend and meeting some of his students.

By the way, I wanted to get some really good shots of the cupcakes to show you how awesome they were and the lovely people at Sweethaus were super nice and allowed me get behind the counter to snap these photos. So thank you Sweethaus!

Rosa Loves… A very S-Wii-T party.

After the Loft event on Saturday, Sara and I headed over to a Nintendo Wii party hosted by Rebecca of I Wanna Be a Domestic Goddess. If you read Rebecca’s blog, you know that she is an expert baker and I knew her sweet goodies would be out of this world. And they were indeed. The pumpkin whoopie pies were so delicious that I must confess that I couldn’t stop at one, I ended up eating three!

Read all about the S-Wii-T party hosted by Rebecca in her blog or check out Shirin’s blog (the party took place at her apartment). Thanks ladies for such a fun time.

Rosa Loves… Friends and desserts.

Last Friday, my friend Rebecca and I met Maria of Infinite Whimsy at Jaleo. Maria had just finished moving into her new apartment in the DC area and we were excited to meet her for the first time. Maria was as sweet and funny as she is in her blog and we had a great evening talking about everything from hot DC restaurants, blogs, fashion, and even cable companies. And of course, we had plenty of tapas, drinks, and amazing desserts.

Welcome to DC Maria! Cannot wait to do girls’ night out again!
