Rosa Loves… Mimosas, brunch bites, and jewelry at She’s Unique Boutique.

Before the snow arrived on Sunday afternoon, the fabulous Katya of Spicy Candy DC celebrated the second anniversary of her jewelry store She’s Unique Boutique with a brunch party. There was a mimosa bar and delicious brunch bites prepared by Jessica of Adventures of the Repatriate. The jewelry selection at the store is amazing and the pieces are just gorgeous. Some of my friends were at the party too so we all did a little shopping. I took home a pair of very sparkly earrings to add my jewelry collection.

Thanks Katya, Carlis, and everyone at She’s Unique Boutique for such a great time.

If you’re ever in DC, She’s Unique Boutique is only a metro ride away in Alexandria, VA. Jennifer Zeuner, Phyllis + Rosie, Julie Voss, and Kris Nations are among the brands found at the store. It’s totally worth the trip!

the perfect pjs

Rosa Loves… The Perfect Cotton PJs.

I needed to finish my Christmas shopping and that meant I had to schedule a trip to Target last week. Target is a dangerous place and I know you all agree. Over the last few years, I have developed a strategy: 1. Write a list of needed items 2. Stick to the list 3. Allow myself a time limit of 25-30 minutes 4. And stay focused at all times. My strategy works like a charm except this past Friday when gold polka dots were involved. As I was racing towards the cashiers, I got distracted by these fabulous cotton pajamas and I couldn’t resist. These PJs are comfy, soft and super fun. Oh Target you got me this time, but that’s OK because I wore these PJs all weekend long and I love them.

Rosa Loves… Zina Boutique.

One thing I love about DC is that it has a great selection of local boutiques. I recently discovered Zina Boutique while hanging out with Ashlyn and I was impressed with the wonderful accessories and clothes. Since I have a slight obsession with jewelry, it was not surprising that during my first visit I found a pretty bracelet that I wear constantly. I wanted to show you how amazing this local boutique was so I went back on Sunday for a little photo shoot. Valeria, the owner of Zina Boutique, also has an incredible display of vintage jewelry and just fell in love with the silver bracelet in the fifth photo, isn’t it gorgeous? If you are looking for a dress for the holiday season or a sparkly necklace, this is the place to go.

Thanks Valeria, Jenna, and Iqra for being so welcoming and allowing to snap these photos for my readers.

Rosa Loves… Vintage shopping.

As I was exploring the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, I noticed a gorgeous dress by the window of Vintage Vixen. I decided to investigate further and as I walked in the door, I was greeted by Carole, the owner of the store, and her super cute dog. After spending a few minutes in the store, I realized that I was in vintage and consignment heaven. Lanvin, Oscar de la Renta, Escada, Missoni, Galliano, and Manolo Blahnik were just a few of the labels I saw. I found a very elegant brooch and it took me about two seconds to decide that I needed it in my accessory collection. I know exactly what jacket I will be wearing it with this fall. I came back the next day and Carole was super nice to let me snap a few photos for the blog. Thank you!

Now, if you love vintage clothing, you must plan a trip to Charlottesville soon. Trust me, you won’t regret it. There’s even a menswear section!

NOTE: I had a lot of photos so I set up a folder on Flickr for you to check out, just click here. Enjoy!

brunch and shopping with ashlyn

Rosa Loves… Brunch & Shopping in the City with Ashlyn.

The lovely Ashlyn of Let It Be Beautiful and I spent some much needed girl time on Saturday. We started our day by having a very delicious brunch at Co Co. Sala. In between coffee and tasty food, we were able to chat about blogging, relationships, and photography. Love talking to this lady! After brunch we went for some serious shopping. Our first stop was Lou Lou Boutique, a great place for accessories, I honestly could spend hours there. We also wanted to check out the newest J.Crew store which had just opened a few days before and we were not disappointed. The layout is impressive and the selection of shoes is fabulous. H&M, Zara and T.J. Maxx were also in our agenda. Ashlyn found a great deal on a pair of jeans at T.J. Maxx and I got a cute peplum top at H&M. We had such a great time and we’re planning on doing this again sometime soon.

Oh and we even had time for an 'Outfit of The Day' photo shoot for Ashlyn’s blog.

Rosa Loves… Brunch & Shopping.

I love spending time in Georgetown. I truly enjoy the beautiful houses, the restaurants, the cupcake and coffee places, and of course, the great shopping. So this weekend I got together with lovely Erica of Simply Epalf for brunch at Peacock Cafe. After pancakes and a cocktail, it was time for a little shopping at some of the nearby stores including my ‘mothership’ (aka J.Crew). I think it was a pretty successful day, we had some good food, found a couple of fabulous items for spring (leopard flats for me and a cute dress for Erica) and enjoyed the lovely weather.

Rosa Loves… The Boutique Warehouse Sale hosted by the Junior League of Baltimore.
If you want to do a little shopping and help a good cause, I recommend you check out the Boutique Warehouse Sale hosted by the Junior League of Baltimore on March 8. The event will be featuring some of my favorite boutiques in Baltimore and surrounding areas. For fabulous shoes, I recommend Poppy and Stella and Sassanova. If you are looking for denim, Urban Chic and Cupcake were always my places to go when I lived in Baltimore. And for fun affordable dresses and jackets, Babe, a Boutique, never disappoints.
Interested? Awesome! Click on this link and get ready for some serious shopping.

Rosa Loves… Cupcakes, Lucky Magazine and DC.

After running errands in Bethesda one afternoon last week, I sat in my couch and read the latest issue of Lucky magazine while snacking on mini cupcakes from Fancy Cakes by Leslie. I couldn’t contain my excitement when I saw the City Guide section featuring Washington, DC (thanks Lacey S for the heads-up!). Going through the amazing list of stores selected by Lucky made think about my own shopping experiences in DC and I figured it might be fun to share with you.

One of my favorite experiences took place on the day that my ‘Sex and the City’ obsessed friend C (her words, not mine) drove from Baltimore to meet me at Muléh. The store was presenting the Spring 2009 Anglomania trunk show featuring the wedding dress that SJP wore in the movie. Not only it was a unique opportunity for my friend C, who was in ‘Sex and the City’ heaven all night, but it marked the time I fell in love with the store’s concept: furniture and high end clothing.

Sassanova became my favorite shoe store after I had a bit of a footwear emergency. My search for the perfect pair of shoes for a job interview had been unsuccessful and Sassanova came to my rescue (and I got the job too!). Oh, and remember those fabulous shoes I scored at the Fall 2011 District Sample Sale? They came from this store.

One Spring afternoon, my friend K and I had just finished lunch at Ben’s Chili Bowl when we happened to walk by Legendary Beast and a little impromptu shopping seemed like a good idea. That was the day that I found my favorite vintage necklace which eventually became a staple in my wardrobe.

And of course, I still remember how patient the owner of Green and Blue boutique was with me when I was trying to decide on the alterations needed for a new pair trouser jeans I was buying. The owner, who does all the alterations at the store, listened to my concerns and fears (I had bad tailor experiences before) and to this day, that pair of jeans is the best tailored item in my closet.

I could go on and on forever. I love to support local owned businesses and the stores in DC have not disappointed me.

So, who wants to come to DC and do some serious shopping?

NOTE: After I finished writing this post, I found out that Green and Blue closed the retail part of the business at the beginning of this month. However, alterations services are still being offered.
