memorial day weekend

Rosa Loves… Sharing a few snapshots of Memorial Day weekend.

When I left the office on Friday afternoon, I was ready for a few days off. Besides dinner and a movie with my husband, I pretty much stayed at home, worked on a couple of projects and relaxed:

Photo #1: As I woke up on Saturday, I found a 4-pound dog staring at me very intensely. I had slept for about 12 hours due to lack of sleep the night before and I could tell that Lola was probably thinking “Oh good, you’re alive. FEED ME!”.

Photo #2: I wore this Forever 21 necklace non-stop this weekend. It’s the perfect statement necklace to wear with a simple t-shirt or a button down blouse. You can see how lovely Chloe of The Chloe Conspiracy styled it here.

Photo #3: I went through my closet and put together outfit ideas using the wonderful 2012 Trend Guide my friend Lani of Real Life Style recently gave me. I always love how she organizes all the trends in these fabulous guides: incredibly helpful and easy to follow. Thank you Lani!

Photo #4: After a very productive meeting with the folks of Thirst DC, I was hungry so I indulged on a couple of mini-macarons when I got home.

And that was my long weekend!

nerdy fashion

Rosa Loves… Nerdy Fashion.

Let me begin this post by saying that I’m bit of a nerd who loves fashion and I embrace it.

One evening, while doing a little fashion reading before an episode of the Walking Dead, I found an article about some guy who is a sharp dresser and a scientist. Yes, that’s possible, though sometimes I would love to pitch TLC the idea of ‘What Not to Wear: The Lab Chronicles’. Anyhow, I was intrigued and I kept reading. It turned out that Eric is the co-founder of Thirst DC, a group of fabulous nerds with great sense of style who organize cool non-traditional talks at a bar. Nerdy fashion? Nerdy speakers? Drinks? Sign me up. Over the last few weeks, I’ve met Eric, Lori (co-founder too) and the rest of the team: Emilie, Joy, and Teo. Oh and somehow, I ended up joining the team. Weird, I know, but I love it because we nerds can be a lot of fun, have great social skills, and be incredibly fashionable. Want proof? Here it is: the ultra talented style photographer Kate Warren of Go Kate Shoot will be speaking at the next Thirst DC event on May 31st. See? We heart fashion too!

So if you live in DC, come to the next event, grab a drink, and enjoy some amazing talks. Think about it, you can unleash your inner nerdiness while wearing a statement necklace or a bow tie and that’s kind of awesome.

Don’t live in the area but find Thirst DC intriguing? No worries, go check out some of their past talks here.
