Rosa Loves… New strategies to manage work projects and to order tapas at dinner.

And we’re back.

My vacation was awesome. The main goal was to relax. I truly enjoy my work, but the last couple of months have felt a bit unfocused. We have several projects going on and even though I love to multi-task, I was a little overwhelmed. The time away from the lab allowed me to rethink my strategy at work. As soon as I came back to the office on Monday, I outlined my new plan to prioritize projects and running experiments in the lab. So far so good. Interestingly, I am also rethinking my strategy when ordering tapas at dinner. I usually go for something that I am craving or that catches my eye while browsing the menu. However, the process can sometimes take a little time. When my husband and I went to dinner at MAS in Charlottesville during our vacation, he did some research online and figured out ahead of time the best dishes based on people’s recommendations. Armed with this knowledge, we were able to pick some really tasty new food to enjoy along with some of our favorites. I have to say that I kind of like his strategy.

In case you were wondering what we ate at MAS, here’s the list from top to bottom:

  • baby arugula salad with tomatoes, sherry vinegar, olive oil, and Manchego cheese
  • sliced, aged raw-milk Manchego and local apples on a slice of hearth-baked bread
  • duck confit and goat cheese empanada with crema
  • beef brisket pastrami with Manchego cheese
  • marinated hanging tenderloin with smoked tomato alioli
  • olive oil chocolate mousse

Rosa Loves… Vacation Time.
As you read this post today, miss Lola and I will be getting ready to pack our bags for a little vacation. We’re not going far, but we decided to go visit some friends and spend time with family in Charlottesville, VA. I plan to enjoy time relaxing with my little family, visiting some of my favorite restaurants, and meeting my friends’ new baby. Lola has a lot of plans as well and these include sunbathing, chasing the neighbors’ chickens, and maybe another encounter with her nemesis the rooster. We’ll be taking a blog break during our vacation, but we will be back in about a week or so.
Hope you all have a great Memorial Day weekend.

cville-week

Rosa Loves… A little time off with the family.

We are back in DC after a much deserved family vacation.

We drove to Charlottesville, VA last weekend and spent all week relaxing. OK, I must confess I did work a little practicing my upcoming presentation. However, I was able to catch up on my sleep, eat some of my favorite macarons (by LemonMade), and spend time with family and friends. I also went apple picking and did some vintage shopping. And of course, I indulged on the best dessert of the season: the best pumpkin square ever (you can get it at Mudhouse). During this trip, Lola encountered some chickens and a rooster. She had a great time chasing the chickens but when she attempted to do the same with the rooster, well, it didn’t go so well. Yep, the rooster is now her nemesis. Overall, we had a good time and now we are back to our routine.

Rosa Loves… Vacation time with the family.
Hello everyone, we are back!
After a few weeks of crazy hours at work and other personal commitments, the whole family decided to go on a little vacation to Charlottesville, VA. We love spending time in this charming town. My husband and I were able to enjoy some fabulous home cooked meals as well as some awesome food at the local restaurants. We were able to catch up with our favorite TV shows, especially Hannibal. I am not gonna lie, but I was a bit skeptical about this show but when I realized that DC-based chef Jose Andres was the culinary consultant, I just couldn’t resist. Lola took a lot of naps, attempted to chase our neighbors’ chickens, and met some new friendly dogs. We all had a great time and now are ready to get back to our routine.
In terms of blogging, I want to start sharing with you some upcoming events in the city. I will post the information and flyers on the right side column. If you see something that interests you, click on the image and it will take you to the event site. If you are around next Sunday and want to do some fun home decor crafts involving feathers and branches, the Topaz + Arrow event might be perfect for you. The event is organized by the fabulous Morgan of Panda Head and Virginia, the talented DeNada designer. Interested? Click on the flyer on the right and get your tickets.
Hope you all have a fabulous week.

Rosa Loves… A little time away in Charlottesville, VA.

And we’re back.

Our vacation was awesome. I ate a lot, did some shopping, explored the University of VA campus, finished a book, played with my camera, and ate some more. Our time away in Charlottesville was just what I needed after wrapping up a big project at work and to be honest, it was nice to hang out with the family (husband and Lola) and not worry about deadlines.

I have a lot of photos to share with you. I visited some of my old favorite places in this charming town and a few new ones. So get ready for some photo overload in the next week. You can say the theme of the week will be Charlottesville. But don’t get jealous DC, you’re still #1 in my heart.

In the meantime, here are the links to the places I mention above in the photos:
